Description:
"School Spirit is an Australian webcomic by Daniel VanderWerff. It features the misadventures of a gaggle of rural Australian school kids, their primary school, and the cemetery next door. While the main theme of the strip focuses on the interactions between two of the children and the handful of spirits they meet about the cemetery, the rest of the cast of children and teachers feature regularly in their own little stories and adventures without realising the somewhat supernatural events that take place around them...

...The strip looks set to continue indefinitely as there are questions about the spirits themselves the author would like to find out about, let alone any readers. It is an Australian strip and makes no excuses for the fact that much of the dialogue is written in an Australian dialect. Being Australian though, is not a requirement to enjoy the strip, but maybe looking back fondly to when you were a kid is...

School Spirit does not have a strong, linear story to it. Instead, it tends to meander from day to day and minor adventure to minor adventure much like the lives of any average child. New schools and meeting new friends lead off to getting lost in the bush, falling over at sports days, going to camp with the rest of the kids, wondering about things like death and the moon... Meanwhile, the spirits in the cemetery seem to have their own histories and reasons for being there, but half the time the kids get distracted from those sorts of things and go back to being kids.

The apparently meandering storylines, however, generally do link together and build on each other as the story develops.

The story primarily centres around the boys Casper and Cody, and their various encounters and dealings with their school mates and teachers, and the spirits in the cemetery that, due to a fairly simple reason which has nothing to do with being special, only they can see. The principal spirit is Wendy, much the same age as the boys, although Old Bill and the Soldier tend to keep an eye on her. Back at the schoolground, the cast is rounded out with teachers such as Miss Conway, and other kids like Grace, Brylcreem, Davey Jones, and Chastity, the Schoolyard Beauty and her two tag alongs."
